Hot Tub Reviews > Sundance Maxxus Hot Tub Review
The Sundance Maxxus Hot Tub is a family-size 600gallon hot tub. It seats eight people comfortably (even with the kids swimming around a bit in the middle). The dimensions are 9 ft 4 in by 7 ft 8 in by 3 ft 3.5 in tall. 47 jets. Price we paid: $7,000.
We picked up our Sundance Maxxus Hot Tub last April, just in time for summer barbecues and late-night stargazing. Installation went quickly, though we didn't do it ourselves. After much debate, we decided to hire someone to install it because it involved digging up the backyard to install a power line out to the hot tub. This is something that could be done yourself, but we figured we could afford it, so let somebody else handle the hassle. Thankfully, the people were very competent and we were able to pop into our new hot tub the day after it arrived (they take a few hours to warm up).
Other than that, installation was simple. Our hot tub dealer had it delivered to our house (fortunately, they took it to the backyard for us since it is quite heavy). Although it didn't look too complicated, I advise getting your dealer to include installation as part of the price. It should be no problem for them to throw that in when you're spending this kind of money. They won't handle the electrical stuff, though (digging power lines), so you may need an electrician for that. The hot tub requires a 240 volt line.

Overall, we are pleased with the Sundance Maxxus Hot Tub. It's very large, which is good since we have three kids and like to entertain. You should be warned, however, that buying a hot tub will put a noticeable increase in your electric bill each month (ours went up about $50 a month but we use it all the time so we feel it's worth the money). If this is a concern for you, or your family isn't that large, you may want to consider a smaller model. For us, though, the Sundance was a great choice. It is made out of very sturdy material and it looks like it will last for many years. We actually tried several models in the showroom (the salespeople were very patient when we showed up with the whole family with swimming suits and towels) and unanimously decided on the Sundance Maxxus. The jets felt delightful, and there was plenty of room. This is a hot tub the kids can even swim around a bit in.
The Sundance Maxxus Hot Tub comes with a titanium heater which is awesome for keeping the temperature even while your in the tub (we had a hot tub in our old house, model forgotten, where you would set the temperature for 102° and it would inevitably drop to 100° by the time 15 or 20 minutes had passed). Thankfully, this is not the case with the Maxxus.
Maintenance is similar to that of other hot tubs. Basically, we just keep a bromine feeder in there and check the pH now and then. While the variety of chemicals out there can be confusing, we have found little need for extras. In fact, the more things you put in it, the faster the water seems to gum up. We do end up changing the water more often than the recommended once every three months (we use it more often than the 2-3 times a week mentioned in the maintenance manual, though). Changing the water takes a while, so plan a weekend day for that. You don't need to sit and watch it though, he can mow the yard or do some other work while that's happening.
There are numerous upgrades you can have made to the Maxxus tub such as fancy lights and a stereo system including CD changer. Since we are to have a backyard music system, we decided not to go for all the extras. Overall, we have been very pleased with our purchase, and I would recommend the Sundance Maxxus Hot Tub to anyone with a big family or who entertains a lot.

And another review submitted by Marie in 03/29/2008:
Hot Tub Model: Sundance MaxxusI was cautious to purchase our hot tub from The Great Escape. We purchased a pool table from them years ago and had problems. Well, after the delivery guys jammed our hot tub against our fence, quickly put the cover on...the top and bottom latched totally did not match up, and rushed through putting the cover lift on...on an angle...we thought our problems were just getting a new speaker that got crushed and getting new panels because my husband had to redo the latches. Well.....to out surprise one night, we were in our swimsuits ready to enjoy the hot tub only to find it off. Watchdog mode. Well, it did that several times. After 8 trips out, knock on wood, the watch dog has not gone off again. But, during all the service calls two of the panels got cracked and now we have a LEAK!!!! We purchased in August, and it is now the end of March. We still do not have a hot tub that is 100% for the money we paid. When we first started having the problems we went to the store, and they claimed there wasn't anything they can do. We have been dealing with the service department....no resolution and more problems 7 months later is not good service.
