Hot Tub Reviews > Beachcomber 580 Hot Tub Review
We purchased the Beachcomber 580 hot tub about 3 years ago, and we've been extremely happy with it. The Beachcomber 580 is 89 x 89 x 36"and holds about 400 gallons. It has 25 jets. Though it is fairly large, and I don't know the first thing about hot tub pumps and such, it has been a breeze to maintain. We haven't had to make any maintenance calls. Other than the routine pH and chemical balancing, an occasional change of water, we have been able to enjoy our hot tub without much effort.
The Beachcomber 580 hot tub is roomy and luxurious without being as pricey as some of the higher end models. The control panel that controls the jets is simple to operate both from inside and outside the hot tub. The lighting system is handsome, especially at night. We live in Eastern Washington, and sitting out in the hot tub at night while it's snowing is a fantastic experience.
Since it gets quite cold here in the winter months, and we wanted to use our hot tub year around, we were concerned about energy efficiency. Our neighbors who got a hot tub a couple years before us complained about how much it boosted their electricity bill. We bought the Beachcomber 580 because it offered a full sided installation design especially for energy efficiency. As mentioned, we use it year around. Thanks to the extra insulation, our bills have only gone up $5-$10 a month, depending on the time of year. Considering our neighbor was complaining about a $40 monthly boost, we are quite pleased with this.
The hot tub fits eight people comfortably, more with a little bit of a squeeze. It's great for entertaining. The contoured seats are quite comfortable, and there's plenty of legroom with adjustable jets. The operation is fairly quiet (I've definitely been in noisier hot times).
The only complaint I have is that compared to some hot tubs I have been in, the jet pressure isn't as strong. My husband says this is because the motor is fairly small (four horsepower) for a tub of this size with 25 jets to run. However, you can turn off some of the other jets in the other seats if they aren't all being used. That increases the power of the remaining jets. The foot massage jets do feel really good though. Overall, the jets are good enough to feel nice on your muscles. It's actually quite therapeutic. It feels great after a long day of hiking or cross-country skiing.
Okay, I have one other small complaint. Sometimes the temperature drops a degree or two once you remove the lid and the water is exposed to the cooler air (especially in colder months). The temperature won't recover while I'm in the hot tub either. The hot tub has a 4 kW heater. Considering it holds 400 gallons of water, it probably could have used a bigger one.
Still, these are fairly minor issues. For the price we paid, I'm very happy with the hot tub we received. As for major issues, it has been maintenance free. This includes the "Enviroskirt"-- a faux wood protective siding, the steps, cover, and cabinetry.
Overall, we are pleased with the Beachcomber 580 and would recommend it. Sure, you can find hot tubs out there for cheaper, especially nowadays, but they are definitely of lesser quality.
